This is Martha snatching a cigarette out of John's mouth and putting it out.

The curse of the day reminds me of one of my favorite books and what it had to say about kisses.

There have been five great kisses since 1642 B.C. ... (before then couples hooked thumbs.) And the precise rating of kisses is a terribly difficult thing, often leading to great controversy...Well, this one left them all behind.

I liked the film just as much, though the the charm of the book version wasn't just in the story, but in the abridgments too.

Anyway, matter at hand: harmless as it might seem, you'd all do well to be careful. Colds abound this time of year and other illnesses, and it'd just be your luck to give it to someone else, and then for them to pass it on, and so on.

Vicious cycle and all that.

Might be best to stay inside, I'd say, but it seems to be growing everywhere.

I realize we don't operate on a normal schedule as far as most things go here, but if you want specific days off for the holiday, let me know as soon as possible. That aside, dress properly, get rest, eat well, and everything else you ought to know how to do. I'm fond of you all and would be displeased to find any of you ill by something like a dip in the weather.

Two more things.

1) Opinions: the lights around the waiting room, a bit much?
2) One for each of you, take them home and decorate or, if you like, they all fit nicely where they are on the waiting room side-table. ~~It might be interesting to see the difference in decorations at the very least.~~

The flu can be nasty but if you're smart about it's not going to kill you. In fact, it really shouldn't all things considered and if you've half a mind about it then it shouldn't be an issue. I think plenty of people have made entries concerning what they feel is best. There is always the hospital if you're not sure and this clinic, and suffice to say you should never underestimate the healing power of simply staying well hydrated, dressing properly, staying clean, and resting as much as possible.

And on the note of deity administered vaccinations --presently, or otherwise-- it's worth mentioning that I think we can very much do without that sort of help. The choice is an individual one as usual though, of course.

I'm not sure if it's just this backhand of curses or what, but, I'm just wondering. As always I want you to know you should be here because you want to be, and if you don't, I'm not about to hold it against you personally, whether it's because you prefer the general hospital, or need time away from this field, or whatever. What matters to me are superiors on staff that are invested in what we're doing here. It's simple in a lot of ways, and some people might say unnecessary. Luke, I hope you are continuing your recovery of rest. If you're not, I'll find out. You don't want that. That said, how are you?

Curses aside, there are plenty of things to busy ourselves with in the City, not the least among these things being to work. Others choose to explore. There's something uplifting about any place though that involves entries concerning Rubik's Cubes and how quickly one can solve them. Fun things are important and usually a fair deal more interesting than the tiresome ones. As bothersome as it is to be here at all, it's nice to see that people can do more than just wait or stagnate. A lot of people, as evidenced by the network, are living.

I guess it's an optimistic day for me. Even the curse is a bit...humorous in its own right.

With the influx of new staff members, it seems prudent to do and/or bring to the table several things.

I'm looking into the expansion of this place, potentially moving us, though that's really possibly more trouble than I'm up to at the moment. Expansion would be in the vertical sense, stair cases and elevators allowing. Slight re-construction, and so on. That is just a heads up for when you run into a long line of yellow caution tape.

Any suggestions of other locations if any come to mind, considering we're essentially just having taken over a part of this apartment building and molded it to our needs, are welcome.

Schedules need re-working it seems as well. Until now I've tried to work around all of your preferences, if you had any, and some of you have claimed anything is fine. Hopefully that is still true. Given way to summer again, the weather here could almost be described as novel. If only it could be circuited to just the weather. I hope everyone was able to have some amount of fun from it....and stay well enough. Yesterday, snow angels, today, summer picnics. Unpredictably charming. It may or may not just be calling a bluff to appreciate the City's generosity though.

It would be sensible, if, after all this time, I had the sense to fear dying here, being killed, slighted by a wild curse, and so on. But I'm more afraid of other people's deaths. Physical. Mental. There is a saying, of some sort: Christmas in July...for some people, it's something they celebrate, a half way marking through the seasons, but for others, it just means: a good and unexpected thing at the most unexpected of times.

Weather for hot chocolate, good books, carriage rides, and snowball fights, I think. A more literal Christmas in July....I like it.

Kurosaki, feel free to take the day off tomorrow. Try to enjoy yourself. That semi-permanent frown is doing nothing for our patients, especially when you're the first thing they see when they come in that door.

I seem to be walking the fortunate path of the unaffected lately. How long that luck holds out, I suppose is anyone's guess. At least there seem to be a fair number of comparatively harmless curses in the face of trouble not caused by curses at all. In a sense, curse related conflict is far less worrying than the alternative. Case-specific...but that's nothing new.

Consider my options...Torchwood? Does it even matter while we're stuck here? I won't even remember everything I've mulled over in this place when I leave. What point is there in that? Still....it's hard not to think about. It figures that he.....we save the world again and wind up right back here. I thought it was over. I thought I could go home. Foolish Martha Jones. Foolish. I should know better...well actually I think I kind of did...but what they say is true. Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

I wonder how he is. It's strange how being so far and indefinitely gone robs you of your feelings sometimes. You can love someone no matter how far away they are. They can even love you back. But if you never speak. If you don't know if you'll ever see each other again. What part of that counts?

He would probably tell me I was thinking too much.

At least I know one thing....regardless of everything else.....I'm lucky because I'm not alone here. I should just concentrate on that...and the interesting people I get to meet. First, my apologies to my excellent staff for the short notice, but I will be leaving soon. Second, because I am not sure I will be returning, I would like to put it to those of you working here whether you wish to maintain it in my absence or indefinitely shut it down. You will continue to have full access to it regardless for emergencies or whatever you might need, but to actually facilitate keeping it 'in business', as they say, this I leave up to you, since it is the lot of you it affects. I feel you are all fully capable, and this presents a bit of a problem in suggesting who would take over as 'boss'.....but you seem to work well as an independent staff. I am perhaps entirely unnecessary at times, sending you paperwork and things to clean.

Anyways...I'm really sorry.....I don't think that's quite good enough, but....this isn't a choice any more than when I came here. I'm sorry.

To those of you I have met while here, either through treatment or just network passing and so on, it's been.......interesting. My best to you, and those you care for, here or back at home. Hopefully I'll see some of you ~~however unlikely~~ again.

Things about this illness have a striking resemblance to few viruses, one more so than others but I'm holding off on a conclusion until I'm more certain.

That said I do think I'm getting closer to something that can help with those who are affected with the following symptoms: coughing up blood when you otherwise wouldn't, coughing too much at all really, mild or vivid hallucinations, fevers, this sort of thing......if you need more of a tip off: severe muscle ache, weakness, exhaustion, a sore throat....nausea and dizziness.

~~I'll be sure to write up the technical terms for what I mean later for those who seem to think there should be something more educated above.~~

I'm focusing on this one because the majority of people here seem to suffer from it but don't hesitate to come to me even if this doesn't describe you. Illness is something meant to be treated, one way or another.

I'm really thinking this is part of something nastier than anyone's going to want to believe.

If you're wondering if one of the people you care about is at my clinic, also feel free to contact. We don't want to worry you more than you are or needlessly.

All those affected with the diseases running rampant, make sure you report it to someone of medical expertise. It's vital not only for you but for those around you. Do not pretend you can handle it on your own. You can't. Obviously these things are spreading and if you think even for a second that keeping it to yourself is going to save someone grief, you're wrong. It's only going to cause more of it.

Get yourself to the nearest hospital, clinic, or what-have-you.

This clinic is open 24/7 as most of you know. I'm here. I want to help. Others want to help. Accept it from someone. Normally I'll make house calls but this situation seems better suited to a constant and reliable location so I'm staying here. I can also better treat you or those you need looked at.

We'll figure it out and do what we can. The more patients seen with similar symptoms, the closer we can get, and more quickly to exacting what it is and how to cure it and stop the spreading.
